A Simple Depiction of the Stimulus Effect on the Deficit
Saturday, July 31st, 2010Possibly My Favorite Chevy Ad
Friday, July 30th, 2010First of all I love Corvettes, and the ZR1 near the end of is one incredible machine. Second I love that Chevy (who is 61% owned by the US Government) is taking a swipe at the Obama Administration’s decision to cancel NASA’s shuttle program (for those of you who haven’t heard US astronauts now have to ride to space with Russia).
Also I, like many proud Americans, believe that American exceptionalism is something to be proud of. As a strong nation we have been able to defend smaller countries from outside invaders and created technologies that have improved lives around the world. We should embrace and encourage an America that is exceptional because it means that we have something to offer the world.

Economics at Work
Saturday, July 24th, 2010One of “laws” of economics that most politicians forget whenever they write a new piece of legislation is the Law of Unintended Consequences. Here is another example from the Obamacare Bill.
Some major health insurance companies will no longer issue certain types of policies for children, an unintended consequence of President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul law, state officials said Friday.
…Insurers are worried that parents will wait until kids get sick to sign them up, saddling the companies with unpredictable costs.
…”We believe that the majority of people who would buy this policy were going to use it immediately, probably for high cost claims,” said Kammer. “Guaranteed issue means you could technically buy it on the way to the hospital.”
You can read the whole article here. This is already a common problem in Massachusetts where insurance premiums are the highest in the country.
A New Definition of Entrepreneur
Sunday, May 16th, 2010Webster’s defines an entrepreneur as “a person who organizes and manages any enterprise, especially a business, usually with considerable initiative and risk.”
Apparently Nancy Pelosi believes that people should be quitting their jobs that society believes are more productive (since they pay more when including benefits) for those which society deems less productive. That’s just what America needs as we try to turn our economy around.
I don’t have any issue with people who make a living doing music or photography, what I do have a problem with is subsidizing their lifestyle with other peoples money.
Just Another Case for Smaller Government
Sunday, May 16th, 2010One thing that people often forget is that the “Government” is not some super intelligent, all knowing, endlessly caring entity…the “Government” is people. Case in point:
The most powerful lawyer in the government is already voicing his discontent for the new Arizona Immigration Law. He must have spent quite a bit of time analyzing it and comparing it to other legal precedents right?
Nope…here is a direct quote when asked if he’d read the law
“I have not had a chance to — I’ve glanced at it…”
” I’ve only made the comments that I’ve made on the basis of things that I’ve been able to glean by reading newspaper accounts, obviously, television, talking to people who are on the review panel…looking at the law.”
This is not a Democrat/Republican issue, this is a big government issue. We as Americans have the privilege of SELF government and we should not be willing to hand this responsibility over to some politician who is more worried about getting reelected (or re-appointed) then doing the will of the people.
Dave’s Cartoon of the Day
Friday, April 30th, 2010A Humorous Take on EPA Regulation
Thursday, April 29th, 2010In response to the EPA’s request for citizens to send in videos about the benefits of additional regulation, a few people thought it might be nice to also show the costs of the proposed regulations.
Its all in good fun and over-the-top at times, but I think its important to remember that every law and regulation has real effects on our everyday lives. Some of those effects are undoubtedly nice, however are they always worth the extra costs?
Hopefully you get a nice little chuckle out of this like I did.

Friday, April 16th, 2010Responsibility to the Poor
Monday, April 12th, 2010What is the Government’s responsibility to the Poor? In my (Dave’s) opinion, probably nil.
However we as individuals do have a responsibility to take care of those in need. This is why myself (and many others) give away large percentages of our income (often above 10%) to help take care of those in need. By contrast many proponents of large government, like our own Vice President, give away very little (in his case less than one half of one percent).
